Spring League 2024 Update

Mar. 26, 2024

Key information for all players to be aware of - lots to read

1 Remember that you must be registered to your team before playing - otherwise there is no liability or medical insurance coverage as part of your Basketball Alberta membership !!

2. Division schedules for the seeding round will be posted by Friday. Teams will be moved up and down after that to balance divisions. Regular season then runs from April 22 to June 6.
All teams have at least one playoff game. Finals for all divisions are on Wednesday June 19
3. There are 3 gyms being used
a. MNP Sport Centre (MNPSC) games on Monday & Wednesday
b. Third Academy East (TAE) games on Tuesday & Thursday
c. West Island College (WIC)  games on Tuesday & Thursday
4. Help us maintain a positive relationship with these gyms by not leaving a mess and being respectful to staff and others in the facility
5. Each Division will have games at all 3 gyms so make sure you know where the gyms are located (map information shown below)
6. New passes will be used for MNPSC - they will be handed out to captains at our games on Monday April 1 and 3 at MNP and at TAE & WIC on April 2 and 4.
Passes from regular season will not work
7. For games at MNPSC, remember the following:
  • use the Back gate to enter, which is on the pool side
  • after week 1, if you forget or lose your pass, you may be asked to pay the normal access fee to get in
  • your pass is for CSMBA games only - MNPSC will ban players found using anything other than the game gym
  • If you have spectators coming with you, this is what MNPSC requires
  • Spectators must check in with the back gate volunteer (if back gate volunteer isn’t present then please go to the front gate and check in with a Customer Service Rep). They are to sign in and identify which team they are watching. They will also be required to show a piece of ID if they are 13 and over. The Volunteer or Customer Service Rep will give them a spectator stamp upon entry. Entry will only be permitted up to 15 minutes prior to game times. MNPCSC staff will be vigilant about checking spectator stamps and any misconduct from spectators using the facility.
8. Uniforms - note the following and that we sell black & white reversible uniforms for $35 each. You can order them any time in quantities from 1 to 15. Contact Therese at discipline@csmba.ca to order.
  • All players must wear uniforms with identical trim and color with clearly visible numbers on the front and back.
  • Numbers on the front are to be at least 6 inches, back 8 inches.
  • Failure to do so may result in team fines for each non-compliant uniform in a game
  • Reversible uniforms are required or 2 sets of uniforms can be the alternate
  • Players are expected to wear the same number for the entire season - this makes the scorekeeper job easier
9. Remember the following for referees
  • CBOA officials have varying levels of experience, game management, skill and tolerance levels for "chat" between players and officials.
  • you will not see and should not expect consistency from game to game throughout the season. In this way, they are like us - we have good games and not so good games
  • We recommend that you adapt your play to the officials and keep chatter to a minimum
  • Officials are not required to respond to any chat/questions/suggestions and those that do respond, do so at their discretion
  • any concerns are best provided by the captain during the breaks between quarters, half time or at the end of the game. Of course, this should be done in a calm and constructive way.
  • If you have a serious concern, send it to me and discipline@csmba.ca and we will forward it to the CBOA executive. In severe cases, their members can be suspended. Most of the time, they are provided coaching.
  • Last and not least, remember that accumulation of 3 or more "suspendable" Ts and Us will result in a fine and game suspension. The very few that accumulate 6 are suspended for the season.
10. Overtime is 7 minutes or 7 points, whichever happens first. Ties are possible in the seeding and regular season.

Third Academy East - enter from Garden Road. School entrance opens at 6:45.
Address is 400 Prince of Peace Way, Rocky View

West Island College - best to use 5th Street SE to access the school parking lot. Follow the signs to get to the Gym 1 entrance.
This is our first time at this gym and Spring League is used to confirm its use for Regular season. Looks great.
